The owner of a dance fitness studio in Moose Jaw is facing bylaw charges over the loud music played in her classes.
Since December, the city’s police say they’ve received “a number of noise complaints from several residential tenants” who live near the studio on High Street West.
Kyra Klassen, the owner of Dance Fitness With Kyra, says legendary musician Burton Cummings of the Guess Who is one of the complainants.
She says she has tried to meet with the rocker to find a compromise, but hasn’t had any luck.
As for the others complaining, Klassen says she has never interacted with them.
In an interview Monday, Klassen noted police officers have been there to investigate over the last few months, but have never found an issue.
“All four of those officers who have attended a class have never issued me a ticket — not even a warning — and they didn’t tell me to turn down my music,” she explained.
However, Klassen has received several noise complaint tickets from another officer — one she said has never attended a fitness class to monitor the noise. Therefore, Klassen said she doesn’t feel it has been a fair investigation.
The six charges, which were laid under the city’s noise bylaw, will be heard in provincial court on April 18.
