Crash with semi in Wynyard leaves woman dead

A 60-year-old woman is dead after her Toyota Rav-4 collided with a wide-load semi truck in Wynyard on Monday night.

In an emailed news release, the RCMP said the crash happened at about 8:30 p.m., at Highway 16 and 9th Street.

The woman “had just turned west onto the highway from 9th Street when the collision occurred,” the release said. She died at the scene.

The RCMP also said the semi driver was hauling “a large empty tank, therefore there was no spill of hazardous goods.”

Crews are still investigating the crash and what caused it.
