The CFL Rules Committee is meeting over the next two days to shape the league.
If I had a say, here are three rules I’d bring into the league.
Player safety calls should be reviewed automatically by the command centre, rather than left to a coach’s challenge. It should be up to the league, not the coaches to make sure illegal hits are being called properly.
Major fouls committed by a player should go down as automatic ejection from a game if two fouls are committed in a game and an automatic suspension for a second offence, even if there was a suspension for the first penalty.
And adjust the rouge.
If a ball flies through the end zone from a missed 20-yard field goal, it should not count as a point. The only time a point should be awarded is if the opposing team concedes the single. A punt that trickles out the side because the punter missed a coffin corner kick should also not be rewarded with a point.
Now, we’ll see if the league’s players, managers and coaches agree with me. Probably not.
