Here we go again, with more hype for a Canadian college quarterback trying to break through in the Canadian Football League.
Michael O’Connor from the University of British Columbia by all accounts showed very well at the weekend combine.
O’Connor has been tabbed for most of his university days as the next best Canadian quarterback to try and get to the point of being a starter in the CFL.
Brandon Bridge had similar accolades out of university and, of course, is still waiting for his shot to finally get a starting job.
And while there are a lot of great things being said about O’Connor, I can’t get too excited over combine numbers and performances for a Canadian quarterback.
Why? We have been let down too often when star Canadian collegiate quarterbacks fail to impress the CFL coaches.
Hopefully the new collective bargaining agreement has something that entices teams to hold on and develop more Canadian quarterbacks, which would help O’Connor try and reach the potential we’re starting to hear more about.
