The news release came out on Friday afternoon. There will not be an NFL pre-season game at Regina’s Mosaic Stadium this August.
John Graham, president of On Ice Entertainment, let go of the dates that he had on hold for the event, which to be clear were Aug. 20-22. In the news release, Graham thanked the Government of Saskatchewan, the City of Regina, the Regina Hotel Association, the Saskatchewan Roughriders and Regina Exhibition Association Ltd., for their support, along with Mayor Michael Fougere.
There is still no official word on who, or what, prevents this event from taking place in our province. If this game goes to another Canadian centre, someone needs to be accountable for that. What are the reasons for millions of dollars in economic spinoff going elsewhere?
The last line of the release from On Ice Entertainment read, “We will continue to work hard to bring future events to Saskatchewan.” Let’s hope. If not, someone in the “new Saskatchewan,” in what is supposed to be a forward-thinking province, owes an apology and should pay.
