Just like a great football team, Canadians have “rallied to the ball.”
When the Boston Globe’s Ben Volin wrote that the CFL game had no downfield passing and that it was boring, the response was quick. Players, media types and fans let Volin have it on social media for his comments.
And I don’t mean to be too critical of those who attempted to educate Volin because it means they are invested in this game. Volin’s statements are just incorrect. The quotes were either from someone who knew little about the subject matter or from someone who wanted to draw a reaction – and that he did.
However, part of me sees the inferiority complex that we have about our game that we have to get over. In the perfect world, we wouldn’t be so concerned with what a New England-based sports reporter says about the Canadian Football League. Who cares? Let’s use that energy to embrace our game even more.
