It has been nearly a month and a half since a ridesharing bylaw was passed by Regina’s city council, but no one has applied yet.
According to the City of Regina, it hasn’t received any applications to operate a ridesharing service under the new bylaw.
While the bylaw was being discussed, representatives from both Uber and Lyft spoke in favour of it, and said the companies were interested in operating in Regina.
When asked about it this week, Uber said in an email that it’s preparing to make an application, but it’s focusing on engaging drivers right now.
And all Lyft did was repeat a line it has given in the past, saying in an email the company is looking forward to coming to Saskatchewan in the future.
A delay isn’t unprecedented. It took about two months for the first Uber car to get on the road in Saskatoon after its city council passed its ridesharing bylaw in February.
