In a Regina courtroom on Wednesday, Saskatchewan Roughriders star Charleston Hughes owned up to being behind the wheel while impaired.
The 35-year-old defensive end pleaded guilty to being in care and control of a vehicle while impaired, receiving a $1,000 fine and a one-year driving ban.
Another charge of refusing to provide a breathalyzer sample was stayed.
Hughes was arrested in October, after Regina police found him unresponsive while pulled over in a truck near Ring Road and the Albert Street underpass.
He apologized publicly shortly after.
“I apologize to my teammates, my fans and the staff of the organization and it’s kind of embarrassing to go through a situation like this,” Hughes said at the time.
