Seems like a ridiculous time to have a labour dispute, isn’t it?
We know the league knows that time lost in the season would be a disaster for a league with teams already struggling in B.C., Toronto and Montreal.
So what’s the deal in delaying negotiations with the players? Well, of course, the league wants the players to start infighting. Divide and conquer. It worked fantastically for the league five years ago. Players even reported to camp before a deal was done. Players are now promising that isn’t going to happen this time.
The league may have other issues to deal with. Montreal ownership is one.
However, the CFL will have bigger issues if it can’t cut a deal with the players on time — because fans are already getting anxious and angry about the possibility of another last-minute deal.
