Solomon Elimimian spoke to the Green Zone on Thursday about the distrust growing between the CFL Players’ Association and the league.
“The league sets the agenda … then they tell us afterwards,” Elimimian told Green Zone host Jamie Nye during their interview.
The CFLPA, according to Elimimian, wasn’t told about the league’s plans to include Mexican and European players on team rosters. And evidently, its concerns about the players’ health and safety aren’t being heeded.
We asked Elimimian to call because we wanted his thoughts on the negotiations between the CFL and the players’ association. Elimimian is a B.C. Lions linebacker and a CFLPA vice-president. He’s upset the league cancelled its most recent meeting, which seems like a plan to cause splintering among the players’ ranks.
It’s starting to look like there might be a work stoppage; if not a lockout, perhaps a strike, because the current collective bargaining agreement expires before training camps open in mid-May.
“My hope,” he said, “is no training camp will be missed.”
