A new generation of golf fans has its 1986 Masters moment.
I was five when Jack Nicklaus won his sixth Masters and final major at the age of 46. It is not a ‘where were you when’ moment for me. I doubt my mother was even watching.
But Tiger Woods brought a new generation of sport fans to golf in the late ’90s and throughout the early 2000s. And then he was gone. He hadn’t won a major since personal scandal played out live in a new social media era and then back injuries didn’t only set him back but practically crippled him.
Tiger once said all he wanted was to be able to pick up his kids again, let alone swing a golf club.
And there he was on Sunday, picking up his son after an incredible and unforgettable Sunday at Augusta.
Forty-three-year-old Tiger Woods may have more majors to come, maybe another green jacket or two.
But I dare say no win will be as memorable, and a generation will know where they were when Tiger roared again at the Masters.
