In the next 60 seconds, there is no way that I can say anything that hasn’t already been said about Tiger Woods. Many of those words, from fans and commentators all over the world, fail to properly put into perspective the magnitude of what happened in Georgia on Sunday.
Tiger’s 2019 win at Augusta was nearly 24 hours ago, and I’m still speechless.
A 43-year-old golfer, on the heels of four back surgeries, a very public and nasty marriage breakup, and a DUI, won the Masters 14 years after he last won. He openly admitted at the 2017 Champions Dinner that he could barely walk. Body and mind got on the same page for not only a return to the PGA Tour but a dramatic back-nine win at Augusta National.
If there was a movie or a book about Tiger’s life from 1997 to 2019, it could be in the fiction category.
One of the best broadcasters in this country told me the most-overused word in sports journalism was “unbelievable.” This was unbelievable … and then some.
