SGI had plenty of evidence Thursday to remind motorists to slow down.
In a media release, the Crown corporation revealed that its March Traffic Safety Spotlight – which initially was aimed at distracted driving – resulted in 8,734 tickets for speeding or aggressive driving and 657 tickets for seatbelt or child seat violations.
According to SGI, those were the highest numbers ever seen in those categories since the spotlights started in 2014. The focus in April is on speeding and aggressive driving.
Aggressive driving constitutes offences such as driving too fast for road conditions, running red lights, not stopping at stop signs, racing or stunting.
In March, police around the province also handed out 748 distracted driving tickets and 319 tickets for impaired driving offences.
