The provincial government is taking the plunge on a new pool for Buffalo Pound Provincial Park.
On Monday, the government announced that the provincial budget included money to replace the park’s popular attraction, which had to be demolished after an irreparable leak was discovered.
“The Government of Saskatchewan recognizes that the swimming pool at Buffalo Pound Provincial Park is a key attraction for visitors,” Parks, Culture and Sport Minister Gene Makowsky said in a media release.
“We are pleased to announce that a new swimming pool will open to the public during the summer of 2020.”
The cost of the project is expected to be about $2.5 million.
The new pool will be designed for all swimmers, featuring sloped accessible entry for young children and those with mobility issues. The deep end will allow lane swimming and lessons.
It will also come with a new building for changerooms and another that will house mechanical systems and admission services.
The park’s pool originally was built in 1972. It closed in July after a leak was detected under the cement basin of the pool.
