A 23-year-old woman is facing a number of charges, including attempted murder, after a shooting in Regina on Friday.
Janaya Rachel Kinequon of Punnichy has been charged with 18 offences, including attempted murder, assault with a weapon, assault causing bodily harm, possession of a weapon dangerous to the public peace, and uttering threats.
In a media release Tuesday, the Regina Police Service said its investigation began Friday at around 8 p.m., when officers responded to a Regina hospital after getting reports of a man with a gunshot wound.
Officers connected the shooting to an arrest that was made Friday at around 7:45 p.m., in the 1400 block of Minto Street. Police had been called to that location after a woman allegedly confronted a group of children and the parents of one of the kids.
When the woman was arrested, officers searched her and found a handgun.
The investigation subsequently determined that the suspect had been at a gathering earlier in the day at a house on the 1300 block of Aberdeen Street. After an apparent argument and a physical confrontation, a woman at the house allegedly produced a small-calibre gun and shot a 20-year-old man. He was taken to hospital with serious injuries.
Kinequon made her first court appearance Monday.
