A doctor who used to practise medicine in Regina but now practises out of Moosomin is facing a handful of professional misconduct charges.
The charges against Dr. Jordan Velestuck are being brought by the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Saskatchewan, the professional body in charge of doctors in the province.
The allegations detail six incidents of misconduct.
Among them is an allegation that Velestuck had a sexual relationship with a patient, married the patient and then continued to treat that person. It’s against professional ethics for doctors to have a sexual relationship with a patient, or to treat family members.
He’s also accused of continuing to prescribe drugs to a patient after a series of incidents. The patient admitted to selling the drugs, claimed three times in eight months that their pills or prescription were stolen and asked for more, had been found passed out with pill bottles, and had a drug screening come back positive for several drugs.
Velestuck is also accused of impersonating another doctor through email when the Medical Services Branch started inquiring about billing inconsistencies.
The other allegations against Velestuck include that he was billing for services he didn’t perform, and that he administered injections without noting in medical records what they were or where the injections were given.
He’s also accused of failing to provide proper urine samples as part of a penalty stemming from his stealing of Ketamine in 2012 from the Pasqua Hospital for personal use.
All of these incidents are alleged to have happened between 2013 and 2017. These are professional allegations, not criminal charges. None of the allegations have been admitted to or proven. A hearing with the college has yet to be set.
