The Columbus Blue Jackets have been the best team in the Stanley Cup playoffs to date, with a 6-1 record.
I watched Game 3 of the Boston series quite closely on Tuesday night. The obvious reason for the Jackets’ 2-1 win was the play of goaltender Sergei Bobrovsky, who made 36 saves.
Coach John Tortorella had the Blue Jackets play a terrific post-season game. Boone Jenner, who had one of the goals in Game 3, also blocked three shots. He is probably one of many who do not receive the credit they deserve.
The other stat that jumped off the page at me was the fact Columbus outhit Boston 53-28. Pierre-Luc Dubois had five hits in the game while Oliver Bjorkstrand had four. The Bruins, who can be physical themselves, had little time and space to move the puck.
When unsung heroes are difference-makers, that is a reflection of the coach putting players in positions of strength. John Tortorella can be hard to like, but more importantly, his team can be hard to beat.
