The Regina Exhibition Association Limited (REAL) is putting a local flavour on the menu at Evraz Place.
Paula Kohl, the association’s manager of communications, told 980 CJME’s Greg Morgan Morning Show on Thursday that REAL is introducing a program called Saskatchewan Flavours.
“We’re really calling this a movement,” Kohl said. “It’s a shift in how we’re doing business in delivering culinary experiences to our guests.
“Over the next five years, we’re going to increase our use of local ingredients by at least five per cent each year and work with our suppliers to do the same.”
In a media release, REAL said the goal of the program is to “foster a connection between guests, communities and businesses to Saskatchewan’s agriculture industry.” That will be reflected in the food and beverage choices being offered at Evraz Place.
REAL plans to work with Saskatchewan companies to revamp its menu and to help raise the profile of the companies’ products. As Kohl put it: “It gives all of us a way to taste what we do best in Saskatchewan.”
Changes will be made to REAL’s catering menu as well as menu choices across Evraz Place, from the Queensbury Centre to Mosaic Stadium.
Kohl added that REAL will change other programs to feature more local produce. Those options include Farm-to-Table Food Experiences (in which executive chef Jaimeet Kathuria invites visitors into his kitchen) and the lessons Kathuria provides to students in the community.
“We need to water our roots more,” Kathuria said in the media release. “There are so many opportunities to build the next generation of chefs, offer farm-to-table cooking classes and provide more access to agricultural programming to give the people of Saskatchewan a better appreciation and understanding of where our food comes from.
“Together, we will get more Saskatchewan food on more plates.”
