Colorado Avalanche captain Gabriel Landeskog was facing the heat, and putting blame on himself, following Wednesday’s elimination playoff game against the San Jose Sharks.
Colorado scored what appeared to be the tying goal in the second period, but the Sharks’ bench challenged the play, believing Landeskog didn’t get off the ice in time to prevent an offside call.
The Sharks’ challenge was successful and the goal was taken off the board. It was a big play in San Jose’s one-goal win.
Some believe replays have no place in the sport, while some believe that this was a chintzy call. However, after the game, Landeskog said this about linesmen Derek Amell and Scott Cherrey.
“Derek and Scott are working the game tonight, and I don’t envy that position at all, to have to make that call in Game 7,” he said. “I’m going to take blame for that.”
While Landeskog’s effort on that play is being questioned, his integrity and class, in what must have been a frustrating situation, isn’t up for debate.
