When police arrived at the scene of a home invasion, they found smashed glass throughout the house and damage to the bathroom door with a woman still locked inside.
The woman took shelter in the bathroom as she called police Wednesday at 2 a.m. to report that someone was trying to break down the door of her home on Mayfair Crescent.
As police started to investigate, they heard the sound of breaking glass and a nearby car alarm. Multiple vehicles in the neighbourhood had their windows smashed and officers spotted, then chased after the suspect on foot through several yards, leading to his arrest.
An 18-year-old man faces 26 charges in connection to Wednesday’s incidents along with other recent crimes.
He faces two counts of break and enter for the home invasion and breaking into a business on the 2200 block of 25th Avenue. Some of the other charges include 11 counts of mischief under $5,000, fraud under $5,000 and shoplifting under $5,000 and possession of a stolen vehicle.
The man made his first appearance in court on Friday.
