One NHL fan base is about to get their ethics and morals tested by the case of Slava Voynov.
The defenceman, who hasn’t played in the NHL since his arrest on a domestic violence charge, is now eligible to play in the NHL midway through next season.
Voynov has played in Russia the last couple of years, but wants to return to the NHL where he had his $25-million, six-year deal voided by the league and the Los Angeles Kings.
Voynov’s case has since been dismissed after three since he pleaded no contest to the charge.
The 29-year old still has a lot of hockey left in him and the reality of pro sports isn’t necessarily how egregious your act is or was, but if you can still play. Voynov can still play.
A team will give him another chance in the NHL if they think he can help win a Stanley Cup.
And while some fans and those in the community will decry the move, many others won’t care. Winning is everything, don’t you know.
