A former member of the RCMP is facing a charge of breach of trust after more than $16,000 was taken from a charity’s bank account.
In a media release issued Wednesday, the RCMP said Jason St. Pierre — who was a corporal in the Assiniboia detachment — started a fundraising campaign for a community charity in December of 2015.
In January of 2017, the bank account was found to be empty and the RCMP was called. Investigators discovered the account had been emptied and closed.
The RCMP launched a Code of Conduct investigation against St. Pierre, who was suspended with pay. In June of 2018, he resigned from the force and the Code of Conduct process — which only applies to serving members — was concluded.
The criminal charge was laid against the 42-year-old on May 22. He’s to appear in Assiniboia Provincial Court on Aug. 8.
