Regina’s City Square Plaza quite literally became the hot spot for lunch on Wednesday for those who work in the downtown core.
As the mercury approached 30 degrees, employees emerged from their air conditioned offices, filling the plaza to enjoy a bite to eat.
“It’s great to come out here over the lunch hour, look at all these shops at the farmer’s market and eat some food from food trucks,” said Mehtaab Samra.
“This week is when summer arrived. It feels like August already, we’re hitting 30 degrees tomorrow. I’m almost a little scared with how hot it is already but hey, I’m enjoying it.”
The late May heat wave was a long time coming for those who barely made it through winter, like Dzifa Foli.
“I am a fan of the heat. I need to work on my tan,” said Foli, who recommended wearing a hat, sunglasses and sunscreen on days like these.
The lemonade stand sold out under the hot sun before the market came to a close. Nearby, Matt Shelest was out with his mother and some friends grabbing a taco lunch.
Given the extremely dry conditions in Regina this May, 980 CJME asked people if they would trade the hot sun for a couple days of rain.
Most people had no problem with the rain, just as long as it falls at night and back to sunshine during the day.
Shelest couldn’t decide because he’s thinking of his plans for the summer. There’s a fire ban currently in place where his cabin is.
“That’s tough because I want to have a fire at my cabin but I do like the heat,” said Shelest.
Pierre Hawkins was strolling down the plaza, enjoying some fresh air after grabbing some food. He said he would trade the heat for some rain to help those who really need it.
“You’ve got to give the farmers a break, right? You’ve got to give them their rain. I’m trying to grow some grass on the lawn and that’s hard enough. I can only imagine,” said Hawkins.
