Winning is everything, right?
Not in the entertainment business. The Saskatchewan Roughriders’ 2018 season is proof you can’t give fans a dry, boring, inept offence and think they’ll be coming in droves to watch defence.
And they did win games in 2018; 12 of them, to be exact.
The Riders still had problems bringing people into the park when the weather cooled off, despite a team threatening for first place in the division.
If the offence was as good as it was in 2017, there would be no doubt the fans would be there in droves.
And in 2019, head coach Craig Dickenson doesn’t lead many to believe you’ll see a gunslinging, full-throttle offensive strategy.
Nope.
A methodical, low-risk offence is what he hopes to see win games.
Fans aren’t particularly thrilled with the notion of dink and dunk making a return.
And I’m hearing they’re more than willing to send a message by staying at home if the Riders don’t give them better entertainment.
