I’m under the assumption that the majority of hockey fans in Saskatchewan are cheering for the St. Louis Blues in the Stanley Cup final because of the provincial connections to the team.
Having said that, I admired Bruce Cassidy’s remarks to the fans through the media after the fifth game of the championship series. The Boston Bruins head coach did describe the missed call on Tyler Bozak as “egregious.” You can’t blame him for that. He was asked just after the clock struck zero in Game 5 about the non-call moments before a Blues goal. He was right.
When asked about defenceman Zdeno Chara’s decision to play in Game 5 with a broken jaw, Cassidy looked at the big picture. He said, “They’ve got guys and we’ve got guys that are hurt. It’s what you do this time of year.”
It was a classy approach to not just what his team is going through but what all teams go through to try to win the Stanley Cup.
Cassidy was insightful and respectful to the fans through the media after a disheartening loss. For that, he deserves credit.
