“We had a strong wind gust report (Thursday night) out of Broadview at 91 kilometres an hour,” said meteorologist Natalie Hasell. “The severe thunderstorm season has definitely started.”
According to Hasell, June is the normal time of year for Saskatchewan to start seeing more extreme weather.
“This is very seasonal and typical, so all the more reason for people to start getting prepared,” she said.
Hasell suggests people create plans for severe weather, like thunderstorms and tornadoes, and practice drills.
“Storms happen when they happen. If you go through the motions, you’re not making the decision (of what to do), you’ve already made it,” she said about being prepared.
An extra step to planning includes having emergency kits in your home and vehicles. With the weather still relatively consistent, Hasell believes it’s the perfect time to give properties a once over as well.
She suggests repairing any roof leaks and trimming trees with loose branches to avoid any unnecessary damage, should a storm hit.
