The Boston Bruins were the last NHL team to win the seventh game of a Stanley Cup final series.
It happened in 2011, when the Bruins won the last two games of their best-of-seven series against the Vancouver Canucks. Boston is trying to repeat that scenario this year against the St. Louis Blues, who led their series 3-2 before suffering a four-goal loss. Game 7 — and all the accompanying excitement, followed by a Stanley Cup presentation — is slated for Wednesday in Boston.
Although St. Louis and Boston have each won two road games this series, the Bruins seem invincible when they’re facing elimination, having won three times and outscoring their opponents 14-4. Bruins goalie Tuukka Rask and pesky sniper Brad Marchand have elevated their games. St. Louis’ big guns haven’t responded.
There’s a strong, Saskatchewan-wide sentiment supporting the Blues because St. Louis forwards Brayden Schenn, Jaden Schwartz and Tyler Bozak are from this province. A Blues victory means the Stanley Cup could make three celebratory trips to Saskatchewan this summer, a dream that seems a long way from happening.
