Kevin Glenn said he won’t be playing in the CFL this year.
He’s 40, played 18 seasons, was owned by all nine franchises and played for seven of them. From his first of three stints with the Saskatchewan Roughriders, it was obvious KG loved playing football. He loved being around his teammates, being a big kid and refining the nuances of a position he kept learning from his earliest days of minor football. He was good, too. Not just a good player, who is now sixth among all-time CFL passers, but a good guy. Maybe a Hall of Famer.
Glenn had a serious side, but he also had a twinkle in his eye that endeared him to coaches, teammates and media. After spending most of his career as a starter and leading his Winnipeg Blue Bombers into the 2007 Grey Cup, where an injury kept him from playing and likely prevented his team from beating the Roughriders, he became a veteran backup with a willingness to help younger players. He told the Green Zone he may return as a coach, but he has turned down offers to play this season, which is very hard to believe.
