A nine-year-old Regina boy with a rare genetic disease has undergone a potentially life-saving bone marrow transplant.
Vonn Chorneyko’s family launched a record-setting OneMatch bone marrow donor drive in early 2018 and, in February of this year, a compatible donor was found.
On Friday, the FAv (Fanconi Anemia Vonn) Foundation revealed in a Facebook post that Chorneyko had had the transplant.
“And just like that Vonn has his hero’s cells in him,” the post read. “He is feeling quite tired and still pretty sick, but he did it! We could not be happier. Grow cells grow!??
“Thank you for all the kind notes and encouragement today and through this entire journey. We love you all.”
