A 15-year-old boy is facing impaired driving and firearms charges after an incident in Regina on Sunday.
In a media release issued Monday, the Regina Police Service said its officers were approached by a man at about 11:45 a.m., who said a black SUV being driven erratically had almost hit one of his children.
The man told officers the vehicle was parked at a business in the 1800 block of Albert Street, but as the police approached, the vehicle sped off.
The police got the licence plate number and a check determined that the SUV had been stolen. Officers quickly found the SUV, which had been involved in a collision in the 2700 block of 12th Avenue.
A male ran from the scene, but officers soon arrested a suspect in an intoxicated state. A search of the SUV found a loaded, sawed-off firearm and ammunition.
The teen, who can’t be named under the Youth Criminal Justice Act, has been charged with seven firearms offences, two impaired driving offences, dangerous driving and two other offences.
He made his first appearance in youth court Monday morning.
