The Saskatchewan Roughriders are going to let Zach Collaros sit for a few weeks, rather than wait to see whether or when doctors clear him to play.
That may be the best play they’ve made so far this season.
After his third or maybe fourth concussion in the last 12 months, Collaros was quickly added to the six-game injured list.
The Riders realize Collaros’ symptoms could pop up a week or two after the hit delivered by Simoni Lawrence.
The season is early, so why rush a quarterback to a lineup until he is cleared, and then give him a week or two more just to be sure.
It also gives time for the Riders to really figure out what they have in Cody Fajardo, Isaac Harker and now Bryan Bennett.
Maybe there is a diamond in the rough that will show the Riders the next guy like in 2008, when Darian Durant sprung to stardom from the third-string position.
Or, maybe this will be 2015 all over again when that same Durant’s first-half injury derailed the entire season.
