The math doesn’t add up for everyone in Riderville. Zach Collaros goes on the six-game injured list, while Tiger-Cats linebacker Simoni Lawrence gets a two-game suspension after the Hamilton defender’s helmet made contact with the helmet of the Riders’ quarterback on Thursday.
This is a fan base that will always side with the Green and White. I get that. It’s what makes this market better than any other market in the league.
Let’s take a rational look at this. Last season, Redblacks defender Kyries Hebert, who had already been suspended for one game in June of 2018, was suspended for two games in September for making contact with the head of Alouettes receiver B.J. Cunningham. Lawrence, who is a first-time offender, was given a two-game suspension with no previous fines or similar violations.
I know Collaros is fragile, which in the eyes of some fans makes Lawrence’s actions worse. I also understand that Collaros had to leave the game in Hamilton. However, discipline should be based on actions, not the injury history of a player.
The league got this one right.
