Evraz Steel has been ordered to pay $126,000 in relation to a workplace injury at its Regina plant in September of 2016.
Evraz pleaded guilty to one charge under Occupational Health and Safety regulations during an appearance in Regina Provincial Court on Monday.
According to a media release from the provincial government, the regulation in question says the employer failed “while workers were present at a worksite, to provide lighting that is sufficient to protect the health and safety of workers and suitable for the work to be done at the site, resulting in serious injury to a worker.”
The incident occurred in Regina on Sept. 30, 2016. The worker suffered an injured foot when it struck a piece of waste metal while the employee was aboard a railcar.
The company was fined $90,000 plus a surcharge of $36,000. Two other charges were withdrawn.
