Kawhi Leonard, wherefore goest thou?
It’s the only suspense left for the world-champion Toronto Raptors: Where is their superstar forward going?
According to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, the NBA’s leading insider, Leonard wants to join the Los Angeles Clippers. He hasn’t given up on returning to the Raptors, but he’s a California guy with a new house near L.A. Winning the championship followed by the ensuing parade, which was attended by an estimated 1.5 million people in Toronto, isn’t likely to prevent Leonard from opting out of his contract June 28.
As his current team, the Raptors can offer Leonard more money than any other competitor through a long-term contract. There’s no doubt the team, the city and the country want Leonard to stay with the Raptors. He’s been asked incessantly about his future and has never tipped his hand with a solid answer. In a little more than a week, Kawhi’s destiny will be apparent. Hopefully it’s not a one-act, Shakespearean tragedy.
