A 15-year-old boy who pointed a gun at a driver in Regina during an attempted robbery early Wednesday is facing 11 charges.
According to the Regina Police Service, officers responded at approximately 1:15 a.m., to the area of Graham Road and East Jenkins Drive in the Creek Side area of the city for the report of a robbery.
A driver told police he had been followed closely by a truck while driving on the Victoria Street service road. When he turned, the truck continued to follow him, so he pulled over.
The truck also stopped and a male got out, pointed a gun and told the driver to get out of his vehicle. Instead, the victim drove away and eventually called police.
Officers searched for the truck and spotted it many times in the city that morning, but attempts to stop it failed.
About 12 hours later, police found the truck, which they determined had been stolen Tuesday.
“A group of males, including one who was wearing clothing matching the description of the robbery suspect, fled from the area on foot,” the police said in a media release. “Members of the RPS Canine Unit apprehended the suspect male and a search of his belongings yielded a firearm.”
The 15-year-old, who can’t be named under provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act, was charged with five weapons offences and single counts of theft under $5,000, robbery, theft of a motor vehicle and possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000. He also faces two counts of failing to comply with an undertaking.
He made his first appearance in Youth Court on Thursday.
