John Gormley and I have disagreed on a few things through the years, but this is a major difference of opinion:
“Rocketman” was much more entertaining than “Bohemian Rhapsody”! Mr. Gormley thought the opposite was true.
The movie about Elton John was part fantasy, part musical, taking its subject seriously but never taking itself too seriously. Elton John’s life story was in there, interpret it as you wish. Wonderfully engaging!
“Bohemian Rhapsody” was much more serious, pretending to be factual while it moved around timelines and tried to put into perspective the success of Queen and its lead singer, Freddie Mercury. Dexter Fletcher directed “Rocketman.” Fletcher was also called upon as a replacement director for “Bohemian Rhapsody,” so it’s interesting the two movies were so different.
John Gormley and I sometimes discuss politics, golf courses, business philosophies and climate change. Yet despite some disagreements, I know we’ll agree on the next movie: “Yesterday,” an interesting look at the music of The Beatles. Maybe we’ll see the show together.
