The City of Regina’s 15th Avenue sewer relining project is going to affect traffic along Albert Street for the next three weeks.
Starting Friday at 9 p.m., 15th Avenue will be closed to traffic between Robinson Street and Smith Street.
Traffic will also be restricted to one lane in each direction on Albert Street as a driving ramp is installed at the intersection of 15th Avenue. The ramp is meant to reduce the impact on northbound and southbound traffic and to allow the temporary wastewater system to operate.
Until the project is complete, throughout the day and night, residents can also expect to hear noise from the temporary wastewater system.
The city says the system is mandatory as it allows 25 per cent of residents — including those in downtown and east Regina — to flush their toilets, have a shower and do laundry while work is being done.
In a news release, the city warns that “residents may experience a slight chemical smell while crews are lining the pipe.” However, it’s not harmful and only temporary.
The city adds “work is being done 24 hours a day to complete the project quickly to reduce impact on residents.”
Once the work is finished, the city expects the sewer pipe to last another 50-plus years.
