Following a loss that felt like a win, the 0-2 Saskatchewan Roughriders ready themselves for their home opener against the Toronto Argonauts on Monday.
Toronto suffered a 50-point loss to Hamilton last week, and now the Argos have to play in front of the most hostile fans in the league. The Argos are out for redemption and are led by a head coach who may say this is just another game, but I would bet Corey Chamblin wants a win in the worst way.
Even though both teams are winless, Saskatchewan is the favourite. The team put up 41 points on the road with a quarterback who was making his first-ever CFL start last week. So is there a chance of overconfidence from the home side? Not at all.
The Riders’ effort against Ottawa was impressive, yet not perfect. There are penalties to prevent, defensive coverage improvements to make and special-teams issues to address.
Last week’s game was something to build on, but had it been perfect, Saskatchewan would have won.
