There is no quarterback controversy in Saskatchewan. Or at least there shouldn’t be one.
Yes, there is the old saying, “You don’t lose your job to injury.”
Well, sorry to Zach Collaros, but I think he should. Cody Fajardo has thrown for nearly 800 yards in two games and was the first Rider quarterback to throw for 430 yards since Darian Durant.
Hmm. That just so happens to be the quarterback the Riders have been struggling to replace since Durant’s trade after the 2016 season.
Now, I understand that the Riders did play the Toronto Argonauts, who look awful to start the 2019 season, but throwing for that much yardage with no turnovers isn’t a coincidence. Fajardo is making the right decisions for the most part and shows that great elusiveness many great quarterbacks in this league have done.
And when Zach comes back — or rather if — there is no need for a controversy. Fajardo has shown he needs to be given the reins and a chance to battle the ups and downs of a season.
There appears to be a future there, something Collaros no longer gives this team.
