The body of a missing canoeist who was presumed to have drowned in Smoothstone Lake has been found.
The Green Lake RCMP said in a media release Wednesday that officers were patrolling with help from the Civil Air Search and Rescue Association (CASARA) on the lake on Sunday when the man’s body was found on the shoreline.
The police said his family was notified.
The 27-year-old from Calgary and a friend were camping in the area when the man left the campsite to go fishing in a canoe. He did not return and a fisherman later discovered the man’s canoe submerged in the middle of the lake.
The RCMP previously said the man was not wearing a lifejacket when he left the camp and the wind had increased a great deal while he was gone.
Smoothstone Lake is located 140 kilometres northeast of Meadow Lake.
