This was going to be such a great CFL matchup!
The rebuilt Saskatchewan Roughriders playing host Saturday to their archrivals and reigning Grey Cup champions, the Calgary Stampeders. Bo Levi Mitchell quarterbacking the champs. Zach Collaros leading the Roughriders. It was a game worth circling on the calendar.
Oops! Wait a minute! Change that! Being told it’s now a quarterback battle between Nick Arbuckle and Cody Fajardo. Mitchell and Collaros are injured, so the understudies are in.
At the start of this season, that might not have drawn much interest. But both teams are coming off their first victories. And after watching Arbuckle rally the Stampeders to a late-game win over the B.C. Lions, and Fajardo throw for 790 yards in his two starts, people are wondering if the fledgling quarterbacks can continue impressing.
It really is an interesting matchup. And it’s an opportunity to see if the understudies can turn into stars.
