I realize that Saskatchewan Roughriders quarterback Cody Fajardo needs to do the right things on the field and, in two career CFL starts, he has done just that. He has thrown for 790 yards, four touchdowns and no interceptions in a loss to Ottawa and a win over Toronto.
However, Fajardo is also saying the right things. After a convincing Canada Day win over Toronto, Fajardo talked about how well the Riders’ defence and special teams played in a 25-second comment when asked about his game. On Wednesday, when asked about being named a CFL top performer of the week, he talked about how defence and special teams made it much easier for the offence to succeed.
Like every quarterback, Fajardo will have good games and bad. (Remember, the Riders haven’t faced a West Division opponent yet.) If he shoulders the blame when times get tough and continues to heap praise on teammates when the Riders win, Fajardo’s fan base will continue to grow at a very rapid pace.
