The sinkhole that opened up Monday in Regina will be around through the weekend.
In a media release issued Friday, the City of Regina said work on the hole at the intersection of Avonhurst Drive and Elphinstone Street is expected to be completed by the end of the day Monday, weather permitting.
The intersection will remain closed until the repairs on the sewer and asphalt are finished.
Crews have been working on the sinkhole since it appeared on Canada Day. City officials initially thought the repairs would take three days, but the work will continue through the weekend.
The sinkhole formed after a sewer trunk cracked, leaving a chasm 25 feet deep and 20 feet wide.
The city also announced Friday that the sewer relining work being done on 15th Avenue is moving to a new section of the road.
Starting on Friday, 15th Avenue is down to one westbound lane between Broad Street and Smith Street.
As well, Smith, Lorne, Cornwall, Scarth, Hamilton and Rose streets between 15th and College avenues won’t have access to 15th Avenue from the south. Those streets will be converted to two-way traffic in that area for approximately three weeks.
