It has been a while since the Saskatchewan Roughriders played a Calgary Stampeders team that didn’t have Bo Levi Mitchell starting at quarterback.
It was October 2014 when the Riders played the Stamps led by Drew Tate.
Meanwhile in that time, the Riders have had starting quarterbacks Tino Sunseri, Darian Durant, Kerry Joseph, Kevin Glenn, Brett Smith, Brandon Bridge, Zach Collaros and that’s not all. You get the picture.
It’s tough to win when you can’t keep your quarterback healthy or can’t decide on a quarterback.
It highlights the importance for the Riders to give Cody Fajardo a long look now that he has shown the spark you want from a backup quarterback that could see them be the next guy to carry the franchise.
With Calgary, it’s over to Nick Arbuckle. And there is just an expectation that Arbuckle will be ready to shine. Calgary’s culture has shown it has the next guy ready, especially at the quarterback position.
That hasn’t been the case in Saskatchewan, which is why it’s foolish to expect Rider Nation to temper enthusiasm around Fajardo’s first two very impressive starts.
