Kyle Lowry was asked about Kawhi Leonard’s decision to leave Toronto, and he gave some very good advice to the Raptors’ ticket-holders, basketball fans in Toronto and the country as a whole.
“Let it live.”
“It” is the NBA championship that Toronto and, for that matter, the country celebrated after the June 13 series-clinching win over Golden State. Lowry noticed that the city of Toronto seemed to be down on the weekend when news spread that Leonard was heading home to Los Angeles to join the Clippers.
Lowry has been in Toronto for eight seasons now and can sympathize with the fans because he knows the market well. The nation’s basketball fans were hoping Leonard would stay. I’m sure Lowry was, too.
However, Lowry hits the nail on the head when suggesting that Toronto should celebrate being the home of the NBA champions, until a new champion is crowned, instead of being down because of change. Change happens all the time in sport, especially in the NBA.
