While music fans were ducking lightning storms, splashing through puddles and watching Chris Stapleton at Country Thunder, I was in Eastern Canada with my two sons watching my favourite band: America.
A Horse With No Name. Sister Golden Hair. America, followed by the Backstreet Boys, capped the Ottawa Bluesfest on Sunday night. As a concession to my sons for watching America with me, on the two previous nights we saw Snoop Dogg, Wu Tang Clan and Alexisonfire. Snoop likes Canada’s new pot laws!
With the Saskatchewan Roughriders on a bye, it’s a great time to do something else. I usually attend Country Thunder, but America has been touring for 50 years and there may not be many more opportunities to sing along to Ventura Highway. So we booked a three-day getaway featuring hard rock, rap and pop. We strolled by Parliament Hill, the Supreme Court and the War Memorial and wandered into the Byward Market.
I’m sure it was great fun in Craven, but we had a blast in Ottawa. Lightning also delayed Wu Tang. Sporting events are fun and unpredictable, but there aren’t many better ways to spend time than listening to all types of live music.
