A few Regina residents aren’t surprised by recent shootings in their area. Regina police are investigating five different shootings that have taken place since Saturday night.
The 700 block of Garnet Street had two gun incidents in a span of about four hours on Saturday night and into Sunday morning that saw three homes get shot.
No one was hurt in either incident.
Bret Eyre has lived in the area for 10 years and was at home when a shot rang out Saturday night.
“I was just inside playing guitar and I just heard a big bang,” Eyre said Monday outside of his home. “It was like a shotgun sound or something.”
Eyre said you can often hear gunshots ringing out in the distance.
Eyre said he tends to keep to himself to avoid problems in the area. “(I also) have this home security system and have cameras now so that’s keeping a lot of the crime away,” Eyre said.
Another woman has lived on the block since 1976 and said crime has been getting worse in the past year.
She said things happen quite a bit along the block, with a lot of it going unreported.
But despite that, she says she still loves her home and living in the neighbourhood.
Police also responded to shots being fired on the 1600 block of Rae Street.
Brian Clark has only lived in the area for about six months but already feels uneasy about being there.
“I don’t feel entirely safe in the neighbourhood,” Clark said. “Since summer started about four, six weeks ago there’s been a lot more gun activity in the area.
“During a week you’ll hear shooting outside two to three times out of a five-day span.” He said he didn’t know about a shooting, but he knew police were in the area Saturday night.
