B.C. Lions Head Coach Devone Claybrooks has to tell Mike Reilly to sit down, whether the quarterback wants to or not.
Reilly was getting beat up again on Saturday, and Claybrooks kept Reilly in the game all the way until the end.
Even after Reilly came off the field hobbled by a roughing the passer penalty from Roughrider Makana Henry, he came right back out.
Why? Claybrooks says Reilly asked to stay in the game to finish off with his teammates in a show of solidarity and team mentality.
Sure, honorable and tough. Which we all know Reilly is. But dumb, is letting him do it when you still have 12 games on the season and your 34-year-old quarterback has taken enough hits to last a season, let alone the first six games.
Reilly shouldn’t have to prove his loyalty to his team. In fact, Reilly doesn’t have to prove anything to anybody.
Claybrooks however needs to prove he’s the leader of the ship and Reilly doesn’t get to decide when he gets to play.
