RCMP members in British Columbia are now saying that two B.C. teenagers who were first thought to be missing are suspects in the deaths of three people in northern B.C.; Mounties are saying the pair was last seen in northern Saskatchewan.
During a media conference in B.C., RCMP Sgt. Janelle Shoihet declined to say where exactly the pair was last seen. “We were advised of that yesterday (July 22), so 24 hours ago.” She didn’t say if that means the sighting happened on Monday or prior to that.
Shoihet said that 19-year-old Kam McLeod and 18-year-old Bryer Schmegelsky are considered suspects in the deaths of Australian Lucas Fowler, his American girlfriend Chynna Deese and an unidentified man found a few kilometres from the teens’ burned-out vehicle.
She didn’t say if the third man’s death is considered a homicide.
When they were spotted in northern Saskatchewan, Shoihet said McLeod and Schmegelsky were driving a grey 2011 Toyota Rav 4.
She advised that if anyone sees the pair, to consider them dangerous, keep back and don’t approach. Call 911, she said.
Both are six-feet-4 inches tall and weigh about 169 pounds.
Shoihet said that Mounties first thought the pair had been missing when their burned-out truck and camper was found a few kilometres from the body of the unidentified man.
Now, she says, investigators have new information that leads them to believe the teens are suspects in all three deaths.
She emphasized the fast-moving nature of the RCMP’s investigation and search for the suspects. “We have to recognize at this that Kam or Bryer may have changed their appearance and they may also be driving a different vehicle.”
