SaskTel employees have voted, but a strike isn’t in the imminent future for the company’s workers.
Before Unifor, which represents workers at the Crown corporation, counted the votes, they received a call from the federal mediator, indicating that the company would be heading back to the bargaining table.
Unifor’s Assistant to the President, Chris MacDonald, said the employees did vote in favour of a strike mandate, but they’re going to attempt to resolve the issue without heading to the picket lines.
“Through the mediator, we’ve agreed that there’ll be no strike or lockout implemented before we get together on Aug. 12, 13 and 14.”
MacDonald said if the talks don’t materialize, they do have the opportunity to still give the company 72-hours notice within the next 60 days.
SaskTel employees began voting on strike notice on July 10, and set up meetings across the province to form the best course of action in the dispute.
